Michael Armstrong

Michael Armstrong has 20 years experience in financial services working in senior management positions with international banks, Citibank and HSBC. He has spent the last 11 years in Asia, based in Hong Kong and now in Singapore. In 2005 Michael established his own financial services consulting and training company working with firms in Asia and the Middle-East. He creates and delivers programs to develop product, sales and management personnel in the areas of wealth management, investments, consumer finance and Product Management/Development.

Before moving to Hong Kong to join HSBC in 1998, Michael worked with Citibank Australia across all areas of its consumer business. He had extensive involvement in developing new products including the innovative revolving mortgage, money market at-call accounts and credit cards. In addition he developed new sales effectiveness protocols for the mortgage sales force and built channel profitability and capacity models for operations.

Michael was hired by HSBC in Hong Kong as Asia-Pacific Regional Manager for Asset Products. In this position he launched over 25 new lending products across 10 countries, co-wrote the regional consumer credit policy and developed standardised profitability reporting. In 2001 Michael was tasked with developing the Internet online proposition for HSBC consumer banking, covering strategy and proposition development, IT, marketing and operations. This role was later expanded to include responsibilities for all direct channels including ATM, self-service terminals, mobile banking and telephone.

In 2004 Michael was appointed as Senior Manager, Customer Propositions, a newly created role to bring together product, marketing and sales teams to ensure a cohesive and consistent client experience.

In mid-2005, after leaving HSBC and moving to Singapore, Michael established a financial services consultancy.  He has worked with clients across many areas of banking and financial services with a focus on improving sales effectiveness and product development processes.

Michael is a regular speaker and Masterclass facilitator at banking conferences and travels regularly within Asia and the Middle East.
