Over the past 10 years there has been a preoccupation in accounting circles with the expected convergence between the IFRS and the FASB standards which was expected to lead to a commonality of approach for the reporting of historical cost information.  Last year it was realised that this would not happen and the euphoria died down leaving a void in accounting discussions.

However, during this time the IABFM has been busy developing a number of programs which are designed to address the key issues of management accounting rather than financial accounting.   One of these, our Certified Cost Controller, program has been completely revamped to reflect the best training methods and approaches to the various critical aspects of management accounting.  This program is highly interactive and has a number of case studies and practical exercises that will greatly enhance the understanding of the topics.  As well as covering the theoretical topics of overhead allocation and product costing it also spends some time demonstrating the future direction of management accounting and shows how the use of accounting data can be used for all sorts of decision making purposes.  The program covers Activity Based Costing and demonstrates the value of ABC for decision making.  It considers some of the multitude of approaches to capital investment analysis and demonstrates the approaches which provide the optimal financial decision.  It looks at some of the most effective approaches to budgeting including zero based budgeting and some of the pitfalls in conventional budgeting.
