This paper by Dr. Cecilia Maya Ochoa won the AAFM Gold Medal this year in the Americas as awarded by the AAFM peer review journal Judges. This paper asks whether the ‘leverage effect’ defined by Black (1976) for stock markets is also characteristic of foreign exchange markets. The study focuses on Latin American emerging markets which have adopted a floating regime.
